Between 2000 and 2003, Philips doubled the size and scope of its Medical Systems business through approximately EUR 5 billion in acquisitions to position the company as one of the top three global players in this market. In 1998, Philips Electronics acquired ATL Ultrasound. In November 2000, Philips acquired ADAC Laboratories and Agilent Technologies’ Healthcare Solutions Group and in October 2001, it acquired Marconi Medical Systems.
